Today’s video may surprise you. It’s about a woman named Beverley, who was pushing 50 and had spent her entire life overweight. She was 5’6″ and 360 lbs (“bigger than a linebacker” in her words) when she stood up to work with Tony.
One hour later, she sat back down and went home… not with a new diet, not with an exercise plan, in fact with no specific plan for losing weight whatsoever… but with a new understanding of herself. She went home and lost 236 pounds, naturally. No drugs, no surgery.
In this video, you’ll see Beverley literally a transformed woman five years later. It’s like her self-esteem and appreciation for herself grew tenfold.
The video is a 15 minute excerpt from an 80 minute film. You’ll see Beverley when she first met Tony, then you’ll see her in the midst of her transformation, and you’ll see her five years later and 230 pounds lighter
So the question is…
What could empower a 350 pound “chronically obese” grandmother to shed 230 pounds -from a size 28 dress to a size 8- without any of the modern tricks (surgery and pills)?
Well…It’s the same thing that empowered a timid, self-confessed “terrified” woman to become the wise, witty, crackerjack of a lady Beverley became (as you can see in the video).
In other words, Beverley’s weight loss was not so much about diet books and exercise tapes. The real source of Beverleys’ shift lay in:
* Understanding her real beliefs and values, and how she creates meanings
* Empowering herself to act on what she believes is right, to express herself, and appreciate herself
* Resolving the pain of something that happened to her a long time ago
* Making new choices about the way she relates to people NOW so that her relationships bring her joy
Now, many of the changes listed above are “big ticket items” that we hope to resolve in a matter of years, right? What’s special about the video is that Beverley handled these items in a matter of an hour.

It was nice to see but we didn’t get the 80 min version. So I didn’t get much out of it.
Since I am being empowered for my issues every time again as I watch the clip with the 32 yr stammering being resolved in 7 minutes
I have now profound belief and hope on myself that I CAN DO IT AND I WILL !!! DO IT, I.E. I will finally, after 15 years of unsuccesful struggling and living a yo you effect up and down of personal weight.
I am looking forward to a new self of self esteem and worth and being in control of myself than rather being controlled by my stomach!!!
Thank you for all the help I have gained so far from just watching and listening to the clip of the sales man, and only watching [my "talking part of the computer had been broken and only got fixed yesterday] the 13 year old with the suicidal thoughts and the weighloss of Beverley. As a personal trainer, I see women like Beverly so often. Addicted to food as a numbing mechanism. They ask me about diets, supplements, best exercises for losing weight & I always say “You have to change your attitude about life & learn to let things go. When your holding on to “stuff” you hold on to weight”.
All through my teens, 20′s & 30′s I used food as a way of shutting down or controlling myself. I suffered from anorexia, bulimia, compulsive over-eating & exercise bulimia. I told people I was allergic to foods, in order to avoid them & even went vegetarian for 10 years. I tried went to Overeaters Anonymous, but found many were now addicted to meetings and whining about their inability to cope.That was even more depressing. The people who are suposed to help me are in just as bad a shape as I am! Despite exercising several hours a day, 5 days a week, I was still remained chubby (AKA fat). No matter what I did, I was always hungry. All I wanted was to stop being a prisoner to food.
I wanted to be able to eat what I wanted without stress & worry about what it was going to do to my thighs, my waist, my weight. Once I realized that I was making food much bigger than it really was. It was just a way to get nourishment & I was making it my punisher, my comforter, my master. I needed to put it in its proper place & not see any particular food as bad or good. Just food.
Once I relaxed around food, I began losing weight & keeping it off. I had cake at birthdays without guilt, enjoyed the occasional treat, said ok to pizza or take-out once a week & food stopped being the enemy. Without restrictions based on perceived BAD or GOOD food, nothing had that power. So I made better choices because it was better nutritionally, not because of its good/bad rating.
It takes introspection to find the beginnings. Getting to go to play first because you cleaned your plate. Family asking you to take second helpings, complementing you on your appetite, its roots start very early. When I was labeled FAT, as a tween, I was devastated. Suddenly I was being punished for my appetite. I felt ashamed and wanted to hide my constant hunger. It lead to many years of suffering about what should be an otherwise enjoyable and blessed gift that we have as Americans; the ability to eat, 3 or more square meals a day.
We can change. We just have to want better and do the work. Recognize the triggers, flip the switch, ask why are you eating now & stop being insane about something so practical. Food is nourishment & fuel for the body. Knowledge is food for the brain. Love & connection is nourishment for the soul. When we provide these to ourselves on a daily basis, we can work miracles, including (in tis instance) sustained weight loss.
I am very happy for Beverly. Being in healthy body, having a sound mind & connection to spirit is a gift. She has it all. Thank you Tony for sharing this video.

how do I meet someone in my area (Portland Or) to help me. I have been a Tony fan for years, in my sales career. Now in retirement at the age of 70 I have put on 100 lbs, an so depressed I do not know why I am living. I am in financial trouble, overwhelmed with life as it is. When I was younger I was always able to tell myself to “fake it til you make it” and I was pretty happy with myself. Now I am pulled back into my childhood fears of welfare, and alone. I grew up that way, do not want to spend the last 10 or so years of my life this way. Help, where do I go? jo
I really appreciatd receiving these videos free of charge. I do have as a lifetime goal to become a catalyst for other peoples’ change. My name actually is Joy – but I am certainly not there yet, not having resolved all of my own personal issues, and still carrying around an extra 50 pounds or so. I have seen Tony Robbins in person once before – and a lot of what he said was extremly inspiring – it would be wonderful to be able to become a conduit – the way he is – for whatever one’s true purpose is on this planet – I do feel somewhere, somehow that I am still getting in the WAY of my own full potential. I have changed quite a few things over the years, but I’m not fully yet where I would like to be.

I don’t know how your info ended up in my inbox, but it came at a time when I very much needed it. The first clip I saw was labeled Financial, but was actually about loss. I have always recovered from loss before, but was feeling lost and unconnected in regards to a loss that I am about to face. The video helped me refocus and face this upcoming loss in a much healthier way.
This video is helping me as well. I come from a family of large hefty women, and I am considered the pip squeak at only 180 lbs. However, at this weight I am having health struggles that I want to overcome and I know by previous experience that if I can get my weight below 150 lbs. I will feel healthy again. My situation had me trapped through the winter, but I have become free again and feel that by getting back into my daily swimming habit I will again reach my goal weight and health.
I was wondering if you have something in regards to retirement as that is the next challenge for my husband (of 37 years) and I. We have had children in our care for these 37 years and are soon to become childless in our home. This, besides the fact that my husband has always worked with his body ( which is now beginning to fail him) will be 2 of our main considerations in preparing for retirement.
This film points out to all of us that it is important to check into whether or not we have the 6 Basic Human Needs in balance. Congratulations to Tony and Beverly.

Just understanding our basic needs and understanding how we THINK we are meeting them by choosing to stay in negative patterns, i.e. when our daily focus is on things that we cannot change! Hi Tony does it again! The way you work is amazing, I would loved to have seen more of this session, I too have a weight problem which I’m convinced that I use as a shield. Having been married and rejected twice I don’t want the same thing to happen again. I have tried using Tony’s techniques and so far have been unsuccessful. What he did for this woman was just wonderful he gave her her life back….
This once again proves that Tony is an AWESOME Mentor & shows how he gets people to open up about themselves so easily & gives them the tools to then transform their lives. WICKED!

PS: I have used the novel concept of the 6 human needs when working with people doing TAT therapy with them, because I feel it’s just basic knowledge of human beings that everyone but everyone got to know, so he can start functioning and responding correctly in connection to himself and the people around him.
thank you, it has been worth my while to read watch clips of tony robbins just for the gem of knowing about the 6 human needs. I don’t even go any further than that…., i.e. all that I have benefitted and gained from all the clips and wonderful explanations of Cloe and Mark.

Thank you all once more for a wonderful video, although unlike the others, this one is very short, and would find a longer video, much like the others, much more helpful. Next month I will begin a Health and Wellness Coaching program from Wellcoaches. As I had seen in another comment thread, if there is a way to learn how to help people as Tony does, I am very much interested in furthering my knowledge (A basic human need) to contribute (another basic human need).
I have begun taking notes as Dr. Madanes explains things, which is really helpful in being able to understand my own emotions, how I have been able to transform them on my own, and why what I did worked and continues to work. I’ve still a bit more to learn (likely quite a bit more) but am on the right track. Thanks for all that each of you do… it is obviously having a difference on peoples lives, and hence makes the world a better and happier place to live!

I really would like to learn more because I am in a kind of the same position; even if the weight is different, I need to change my ‘blueprint’ like Tony says but ..I just don’t know how !!! I do so much in a day, especially for others , that when it’ time to take time for ME, I am so damn tired, I just want my pillow…I can literally fall asleep on a chair or wherever because as soon as I relax, my body shuts down. I tried meditating and fall asleep on the second sentence…I need help and hope you can do so ! Thank you very much

Tony, you always are an inspiration, yes, the little lady had her story, yes, it can be done, I beleive that when she heard from you that she could change, it lead her on the path to change, she did not mention that fact that she had help, no one can do it on their own, it takes other people for support of any new idea. It was exciting to she a woman shed all that weight and not have skin hanging down to her knees, I am a woman that is eighty pounds over weight, I am alone in life, I do not know how to get support. Sadness, terror, no self worth, yes, MY mind has looked for a joyful life, sometimes I pretend, then I look in the mirror and know that the connection from my mind has not been received by my body. This woman was so motivating ~ I wish it had been longer than 15 minutes so I could have learned more. I lost 80 pounds and about half of that is back on now and I don’t want to gain the other 40!

desperation is the mother of invention. when i lost 60 lbs in 7 months i focused on what i needed to do. i started loving myself. i said why abuse myself by eating excessively. not taking care of myself made me feel like i was abusing myself. I know no one could do what I was doing it was ME who had to make that effort. everyone had their own opinion and that opinion was a form of control over me. I started to feel emotionally high to see my body change. People where saying “but you have to throw away all your clothes. so what. i am in my fifties and i had guys in their twenties looking at me. not that i want that, but just that i had noticed that. maybe my youthful spirit came out. what every is making you unhappy try to get rid of it as fast as you can, and if you can’t right away then do it when you can.

Changing paid architect`s “identity with light worker`s not expressed “out there” abilities…, got me into a trap for so long!
I found my limiting beliefs! The North Node (karmic astrology) shows what from the past life inheritance of the soul is to be changed in this life time & into what.
Well.., I found myself seeing my past “obstacles” like impossible to overcome, in stead – like s.th that CAN be changed by choice! If they are there as life task – challenges, I should have come with the strength, I need & the tools will be there too! And so they are!
I kept comparing with others, who have good past “and so – they thrive”…of course!
It`s amazing how easy it is to “know & understand” and to stay paralyzed, when it comes to action!
Obviously fears, beliefs & thoughts, behind the thoughts we are aware of, can be stronger than the “knowing” & can come first to blind us!
